The Politics of Dancing
Original post date: August 29, 2008…
Have you wondered why the quality of TV programming has declined so noticeably? The answer recently has become clear. All the outstanding writers appear to be working on the soap opera edition of Election Day 2008. Right here, right now may well be the most defining event of this nation’s history, not to mention its future. The formal dance of choosing leadership, Americans have so apathetically mastered, has been reduced to monolithic elements.
Water cooler participation, not seen since the OJ trial, has the nation gravitating toward debate and exchange of ideas. Meanwhile Gustav is bearing down on New Orleans or Pensacola depending on which hurricane model you trust. The skeleton of Katrina may haunt the Republicans bid in a bill long past due.
John McCain on Hurricane Katrina and Arabian Horses

In response to Barrack Obama’s historic achievement of becoming the first African-American Presidential nominee, John McCain countered by nominating the Governor from Alaska Sarah Palin for V.P. The Republican strategy of announcing the morning after Obama’s charismatic performance diverted the focus from the 1963 King “Dream” to 1920’s women’s suffrage.
At the water cooler, this plays out with McCain celebrating his 73rd birthday with questionable health, potentially producing the first woman president of the United States. This can be viewed as an attempt to elicit votes from the disenfranchised Hillary supporters. Prior to this strategy, it appeared the Republican Party’s hope was pinned to a pay per view execution of Osama Bin Laden on the eve of the election.
All things being equal, the good news is the election should actually come down to the issues regarding the nation’s future. One need not search any further than the economy. As a nation, we learned gasoline at $4 per gallon was the tipping point creating demand destruction. That combined with the fact people tend to stay home when they’re out of work.
This election is not about glass ceilings or Congressional debate on whether to officially recognize and apologize for the America’s slavery debacle. It’s about putting Americans first, it’s about the next Katrina, it’s about the economy. Foremost it’s about
TW from AZ requests clarification and gravitas regarding my statement in blockquotes
I firmly believe numerous elected officials should have broken in a pair of orange jumpsuits by now. The moniker on the back of that one piece overall should read Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. It wasn’t too long ago when the bar was set at the level of making it just a little easier for the middle class. These days are gone, and we can’t keep holding on… when all we need is some relieve through these “Hard Times”.
The image remains seared in our memory: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED; fully aware it was, is, and always will be the politics of dancing. gjf

Gilbert Mayoral Candidate Dave Petersen
Dear Sir,
Having received your telephone elicitation numerous times over the past week, I decided to look into your suggestion to view your campaign videos.
Having done so, I believe this campaign approach to be unique and an effective means to your election bid.
To further my efforts of being an informed voter I request to ask questions in order to ascertain the best person for the position.
"Thanks you for taking the time to become informed."
I'm curious as to your selection process regarding being identified as Mayor Dave in your ad campaign.
Typically, that privilege is afforded to the incumbent, therefore it occurs to me your intent possibly is to mislead the voter.
Would you please direct your reasoning toward utilizing this particular tactic if the intent is other than deceptive?
"I find that being a leader I always set the goal and then act as if it has already happened - speak and perform it into existence. I had no intention of trying to mislead the voter. More of a positive approach to the election than anything else."
Given the current economic conditions, I believe money spent within the community reduces the number of foreclosures, thereby maintaining property values; fuels small business growth through local merchant prosperity, thereby increasing tax revenues; and consequently increases local investment and growth in the community.
Would you consider hiring only Gilbert residents for Town of Gilbert jobs thereby supporting the collapse of future housing prices any further?
"I think putting a condition on employment of having to live in the Town of Gilbert would reduce the quality of the employee thus reducing the quality of service. I always go for the highest qualified person for any position that I have open in my company. The way to fuel small business growth and local merchant prosperity is to lower the cost of doing business. Reducing the sales tax rate, reducing the fees, permits, inspections and just plain government interference in business would go a long way in helping the economy, too. "
Regarding the deteriorating of property valuations, is a program in place to reevaluate the property tax rate considering current valuations are no longer valid?
"The County Assessor's office is responsible for the evaluations of property - They always seem to be about 2 years behind and I am sure they are getting a lot of pressure to re-evaluate the entire county right now."
Given he possibility the items mentioned above may be outside the realm of your authority, as the leading role model and ranking citizen of Gilbert is it your personal position to reinvest back into your community?
Would you tend to agree money that leaves the community has an irreversible effect upon the local community from which it was generated?
" Yes, investing in Gilbert is the name of the game. That's what the general plan is all about - planning on the future growth of the town. I would do all that was legally possible get money to stay in Gilbert."
With respect to the Million dollar Marble, was the procurement based on one individuals decision or was this a town council item?
"That was part of a 4 Million dollar Water Tower Park expenditure that all six council members and the mayor approved. Everything that goes on as part of the town mechanism has to have 4 votes - the mayor leads the rest of the council - but still only has one vote. Interesting that 3 of the people running for election this time voted to spend the money (Berman, Skousen, and Krueger)."
"Thanks for your time and questions
Dave Petersen "
Respectfully, gjf

Monday Bloody Monday
On this date in Europe, the media is predicting with glee the long overdue fall of the U.S. Financial markets. For those of us “living and breathing” the policies that put us in this predicament pull out your survival guide, take a deep breathe and turn to page one. Item # 1; avoid walking past buildings higher than seven floors. If you absolutely must though, keep your head up.
It is not as if I have said it once, I have said it 9.6 trillion times. Today’s world requires a MBA in Finance, a Masters in Philosophy and a PhD in Psychology. That’s just to manage a household. For this reason, I have been critical of the nation’s decision to place G.W. Bush in the White House for not one but two terms.
Top 10 Bush Moments

I believe a candidate for leader of the free world should crack the IQ Mendoza line. A savvy CEO type with credible experience and integrity most likely will not destroy the nation’s Financial Capital Market structure. It is not as if we expected a leader to step up who mismanaged and failed in business; three times…
Even if that were the case, the Commander-in-Chief must put the Country first. It is not as if, the so-called most powerful man on the planet could actually have a contrary agenda. Certainly, the Vice President would never approve, although there is that common link with oil, which may create disillusionment.
To the country that gave us the original and authentic King George, we say, it is not as if we haven’t seen this before. It is not as if we did not see this coming. Certainly, it is not as if we will not see more of this again. Survival guide page one, item #1 deals specifically with capitulation. Keep your head up, so when you step up, you are positioned to shove it up their ADR's.

Pollywood Dynamics rule the day
The Political parties have taken their positions. This is how it appears to be playing out. The Democrats went with two Senators, the V.P. being the status quo Washington type, the other being the young, fresh, innovative, and analytical Presidential candidate.
Senator Obama possesses charisma and oratory skills. When combined with eloquent prose, his delivery provides inspirational speech, which exudes a positive message of hope and empathy. He presents a likable and listenable quality essential in today’s Political Hollywood Bowl election coverage. To suggest it was a circus environment would be hyperbolic. Correct me where I am wrong, but I see many clowns, the politicians are masters of illusion making family economics disappear. There’s elephants and jackasses espousing nonsensical jargon spinning away reality faster than one can say, “I’m dizzy I’m gonna Vesuvius.” Thank God I do not see a Ringmaster I’d be completely confused; but that’s not enough, oh no!
There’s more, as always one must examine the other side. The Republicans choose to lead with an established maverick, which personally I consider oxymoronic, and the young, fresh, ambitious, and proactive model as a V.P. candidate.
Relatively unknown, to not only Washington, but also the Continental U.S., Sarah Palin hails as Governor from the great state of Alaska. Soundman cue the circus music please, its show time at the Pollywood Bowl.
On this day of September 4, 2008, CNBC discussed the value of the watchable quality appeal of the latest contestant throwing her hat in the Center Ring. When I referred to model previously, Donny took it a step further by admitting on behalf of every non-homosexual male on the planet he had glazed over when the broad spoke of the Republican energy plan. Thanks for that Donny, won’t argue the point, but that’s coming home to roost. The saving grace was Erin; the CNBC co-anchor took it yet one-step further, making the crucial connection, saying four letters starts with M, ends with F. If you’ve listened to Stern, the answer is MILF and wait for it, is that a Ringmaster I see…
Now that it’s out there, if memory serves correctly, the dynamics of the Kennedy-Nixon debate was the precursor to the present Pollywood daze.

Therefore, the Republicans plan to stay in the White House using primal instinct combined with stealing the disenfranchised Hillary voter.
Considering prior to the unveiling of their V.P. selection, the entire country was holding their collective breath wondering when Bush was planning the Pay Per View event of public execution of Osama. I realize I’ve adopted a hyperbolic tone but this is healthy American skepticism, one which Americans can relate to.
This election is about personalities that flirt with the ethical line of how badly your team needs to win. My concern enters when I see an orange tuxedo instead of an orange jumpsuit enter the Ring. My concern continues when the primary talking point regards an issue 10 years out. Meanwhile on a daily basis Americans are being foreclosed.
Finally I’m convinced when I ask the question; (look at your watch if it has a second hand, ready), who is the V.P. candidate for the Democratic Party? IT is at this point skepticism turns to cynicism; it is at this point the country is stuck in the mud.
Donny, due respect; but there is danger by taking the leap from Camelot to Caligula all be it with an entertaining circus act in between. The day Hyperbolic Political Hollywood rules the day is the day the “Tail Wags the Dog!” Enjoy the Show.
